Spring is coming and Easter is almost here. In keeping with a longstanding community tradition, the Lansing Jaycees are gearing up for their annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Capitol Lawn on Saturday, April 11, 2009! This year’s event will include many activities for children of all ages. Activities include: crafts, games and prizes and several special visitors! Confirmed visitors include the Easter Bunny, Click-It the Cricket, Lansing Lugnuts Big Lug, McGruff the Crime Dog and Sparty the Spartan. Raffle tickets can be purchased on the day of the event to win Easter Baskets and other great prizes. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit future Lansing Jaycee community projects. “The Easter Egg Hunt is a great event. There’s nothing better than seeing the mad scramble for the eggs covering the Capitol Lawn” said Carrie May, 2009 Easter Egg Hunt Chairperson. Announcements begin on the steps of the Capitol at approximately 10:00 a.m. with opening remarks. The hunt will begin at 11:00 a.m. Last year’s event was attended by approximately 500 children. The Jaycees are ready for over 1,000 children this year and will have over 9,000 eggs stuffed with toys and candy! Adults must accompany their children to the event, but are not allowed within the hunt areas. There will be three hunt areas, for age groups: 3 and under, 4-6 and 7 and up. In the event of rain, the Easter Egg Hunt activities will be cancelled and not rescheduled, with eggs donated to local charities. This year’s community sponsors include: Sohn Linen, MSU, YMCA, Al Fusion, Fun Tyme and Cottage Inn. The Lansing Jaycees are a group of 21-40 year old young adults who provide leadership training opportunities through community involvement.
