To be a host family, you must be at least 25 years of age, and be willing to provide room, board, love & guidance. Many very good prospective host families dismiss themselves because they don't see themselves as "normal" or the "typical American family". The most important features of a good host family is love and kindness. We have experienced success with all sorts of host families: parents with high school age children, parents with very young children, empty nesters, young couples, same-sex couples, retired couples, multi-generational adult households, single parents households, etc.
All exchange students have gone through an extensive application/interview process and have attended a weekend orientation in their home country. All of our exchange students posses necessary language skills. All students will have their own spending money. Financially, the host family is not expected to provide any more than food and a bed to sleep on. The student may share a room with another same-sex family member, but must have their own bed.
