For sale is a pretty unique old find. This is an old assayer's or chemist's (or apothecary, or pharmaceutical) balance scale from Eimer & Amend, New York. I've looked, but can't quite identify any "model number" to this version. It appears to date from about the 1880's-1890's - they started carrying laboratory supplies in the mid-1870's, and by circa 1900 or so the scales were more and more made with metal frames. This one comes in its original polished mahogany wood case, and looks to be its original glass, also. The physical condition of the entire thing is excellent - one ring stain on top and inside; one small sticker and one letter marking on the top; some kind of old spill stain inside the drawer; no water, chips, cracks or other damage anywhere else; the pans will need a little cleaning. Adjustable feet work well, as does the level. The scale itself seems to work just fine (I know the pics show it assembled incorrectly on the beam, I fixed that and tried it out). The front sliding window can come out the top, but the original window weights on cords are still attached so it must be laid flat on the top of the case. Outside measurements of the wood case are about 18" long, 16" tall, and 8-1/2" wide/deep. Please see all the pics for details. $150.00 cash. Lansing area meet. NO shipping.
