The Art of the Chinese Sabre
Learning how to wield a weapon offers many advantages to the martial artist,
including improved distancing, timing, and footwork and adding to your arsenal.
Shanzhaidao is a system of swordsmanship that can be easily applied to everyday
objects in your environment such as baseball bats, walking sticks and umbrellas.
The focus is on developing the body to effectively apply the varied techniques and
strategies of the system in full-contact fencing whilst wearing protective equipment.
Nowadays, even in China, mastery of weapon-based combat is rare. The instructor,
Maarten (Maahrtun), spent eleven hard years in China, searching for, studying and
bringing this art to the West, where he hopes that it will flourish once more.
